HOW TO RIDE IN FOG
Orientation
At any time of the day, it is necessary to adhere to the correct position of the vehicle on the road. In heavy fog or at night, road markings or restrictive posts help with this. According to the rules, these columns should glow red, orienting the driver about the road border, but they are not present on all routes.
Layout lines
and a navigator is good landmarks in the fog. Reflective signs help a lot at
night. To see them better, you can turn on the main beam for a short time.
Remember that some intersections do not have a centerline.
At this point, you can easily lose your way. Therefore, it is best to slow down and
wait until the centerline is visible again. If during this time the car has
changed, then you should return to your markup.
An excellent
assistant when driving in fog is a satellite navigator. The picture is clearly
displayed on its screen, and you can understand in which direction you should
continue to move. This thing will be especially useful at large junctions and
intersections.
Visibility
Fog is a
kind of sediment that reduces the visibility of the road through the
windshield. Therefore, do not forget about the wipers. With a long ride, the
windows begin to fog up and they need to be cleaned, both in the cabin and on
the back.
It is worth
noting that this effect occurs earlier in vehicles that do not have a cabin air
filter. You can get rid of this phenomenon by turning on the stove or air
conditioner. The main thing is to direct the airflow to the windshield, then
it will not fog up.
In order to
improve visibility in fog, from time to time you can flash a high beam or use
an alarm. If it becomes necessary to stop, it is advisable to do it as far as
possible from the roadside. It is best to move completely off the road.
While
driving, you need to concentrate your attention not only on the oncoming
traffic but also on your own, since another car can drive slowly in front.
Speed
In foggy
weather, special attention should be paid to the speed limit. The speed of the
vehicle must be such that when an obstacle occurs, the vehicle can stop without
colliding with it. At the same time, it should be remembered that on our roads
you can very often find old cars, in which the sidelights are practically
invisible.
For this reason, the safest speed in foggy weather is considered to be 30-50 km / h. You
should not rely on your skill and knowledge of the road, since in foggy weather
it is impossible to see everything that is happening around you. Moving at such a
high-speed mode, you can instantly stop at almost any visibility.
The speed of
movement in such weather should be at least twice as low as usual. The visible
40 meters may not be enough to stop the car completely, especially in the
winter season. On long journeys, you must constantly monitor the speed limit.
